Wells and Boreholes are not safe for Drinking – Dr. Bayitse

The National Coordinator for the RECIRCULATE project from the Department of Sanitation and Environmental Management Division of CSIR-IIR, Dr. Richard Bayitse, has stated that water from dug out wells and Boreholes are unsafe for drinking.

Speaking at the Dissemination of Recirculate Project Output to community members in Madina, Dr. Bayitse explained further that since these sources of water are open to the severity of the environment, they get contaminated easily thus posing as a health threat to the consumer.

During the question and answer segment, a participant asked how safe sachet water was for drinking and Dr. Bayitse replied that it was safe but could get contaminated if not handled well.

“You either finish it completely or use it for something else apart from drinking after you leave it for a while and return to it”.

The Dissemination of Recirculate Project Output to community members was held at the Zurak park in Madina with the presence of students from the Umar Bin Hatab Islamic School and some other dignitaries such as Sheikh Salman, the Chief Imam of Madina Zongo, Kean Agyei Appiah, the Municipal Director of Education, Imoro Sulemana, the Head Teacher of Umar Bin Hatab Islamic school and Environmental Activist, Zico Ishaq Abubakar Newton amongst others.
