Chief Imam breaks silence on Nima shooting

The National Chief Imam has stated that the shooting incident that occured in Nima, a suburb of Accra last Tuesday, January 18, 2022, could just be a tip of the iceberg if the economy is still in its poor state.

According to his spokesperson, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, in an interview with Accra based Joy FM on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, he opined that the office of the Chief Imam together with some stakeholders will find a way to calm down the situation.

Already, the Chief Imam some time ago “made a commitment to cooperate with the police in any matter that has to do with the security of the people during different visits that was paid on him by the former and current IGP”.

Background 

On Tuesday, January 18, some irate youth of Nima and Maamobi engaged in a deadly fight with machetes and shootings due to some misunderstanding leaving scores injured.

9 suspects were however arrested by the police according to their report whiles a bounty of GHc20,000 has been promised to be given to any one who gives with information leading to the arrest of the gang leaders.
