Sacked KATH accountant seeks redress in court

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) accountant who recently took the hospital to court over the alleged misappropriation of COVID funds has taken the hospital to court for what he claims was a wrongful dismissal.

The accountant, Awuni Akyireba wants the court to annul KATH’s Governing Board decision of his dismissal.

The case will be heard by the court on a set date of January 28, 2022.

The accountant, Mr. Awuni Akyireba in 2021 petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to look into the how COVID funds of the hospital were allegedly misappropriated.

He further charged CHRAJ to investigate the Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the hospital, Dr. Oheneba Owusu Danso.

In a letter signed by the board chair of KATH, Nana Effah Ampenteng, the Omanhene of Bompata Traditional Area, he directed the Director of Finance to remove the name of Mr. Awuni Akyireba from the staff payroll and all his entitlements due him be paid.

The Hospital’s Board further stated that Awuni Akyireba’s conduct is “reprehensible and unacceptable” and also denied all the allegations made by him.

In an interview monitored by thenewgh.com on Eyewitness News, the Public Relations Officer of KATH indicated that its outfit is yet to receive the suit and if it is received, a “robust response” from the hospital should be expected.
