Some part of the Konkomba Yam Market has been burnt down into ashes at Agbogbloshie, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana last night.
According to reports, the fire started around 12 midnight yesterday August 26th 2021, which burnt down dozens of wooden structures, leading to the loss of many properties.
In an interview with some eye witnesses, the fire started burning one wooden structure due to an electrical fault with the attempt to stop it from spreading but to no avail. According to them, it took the intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service to put out the fire at 2am this morning.
“There is a shower operator here; so when the fire started, he was trying to use his water to put it out but he could not. The Fire Service people brought three fire tenders and were able to fight the fire,” one Jacob Ntesen said.
Properties including yams, drums of alcohol, palm oil, and some personal belongings were damaged in the fire. Investigations are however underway into the matter.
Meanwhile, affected residents have however appealed to the government to come to their aid.
