The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been arrested and detained by the Ghana Police Service.
His arrest comes after he was invited by the Ghana Police to assist with investigations over some allegations he made against the former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama that he has connived with Al Qaeda to stage a coup in Ghana.
According to a press release by the police on Tuesday February 15, 2022, and signed by DSP Juliana Obeng of the Police Public Affairs unit, “Preliminary investigations reveal that his claims against the former president are untrue and likely to occasion a breach of peace”.
He has been “charged on two counts of Publication of false news and Offensive conduct conducive to breaches of peace”.
He was reported to have appeared at the Accra Regional Police Command at about 2:40 PM on February 15, 2022, even though he was given up to 4 PM on the same day on February 15, 2022 to show up and was taken through interrogation for his claims.
He will be however arraigned before court on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.
Meanwhile, the police have urged the general public to be circumspect with their dealings especially with pronouncements.
