Monday Declared Public Holiday in Senegal Over AFCON Victory.

The government of Senegal has declared Monday February 7, 2022 as a public holiday following the country’s first ever win of the Africa Cup of Nations trophy.

Senegal grabbed their first ever trophy in the just ended African Cup of Nations tournament in a thrilling grand finale against Egypt.

The game which ended goalless after 120 minutes end to end action had to be settled via the lottery of the penalty shootout.

The Teranga Lions are described are described as third time lucky as they were lost to Tunisia and Algeria in the finals in 2004 and 2019 respectively.

The hard fought 4:2 penalty shoot out victory over the Pharaohs of Egypt has brought to an end Senegals quest to be crowned African champions.

According to the Senegalese government, the victory has brought so much joy to the people Senegal and it is prudent today be a declared a public holiday for the people to celebrate.

Football fans and connoisseurs of the game before the start of the tournament har tipped the Senegal as one of the favourites to win the trophy due to the calibre of players in the team.

The victory also came with Sadio Mane and Edouardo Mendy emerging as the player of the tournament and goalkeeper of the tournament respectively hence doubling the joy of the Senegalese people.
