The chief of Madina Zongo, Chief Alhaji Abdulai Ali Dagadu has called for infrastructural and educational support for the people of his community.
He made this call when Dr. Arne Wulff, the Country Representative of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) paid a courtesy call on him at his palace today.
Chief Dagadu thanked Dr. Arne Wulff for his efforts in organizing a programme last year which aimed at helping the youth of the community to gain employable skills such as carpentry. He appealed for more support in this regard as he said the youth of the community needed more skilled work to help them get out of unemployment.
He said his community has a lot of schools but some with infrastructural deficit and therefore he is appealing to the good office of KAS to come to the aid of these schools. He also appealed to the German Corporation to give scholarship and exchange programme opportunities in Germany to some of the youth of Madina Zongo.
He said if these opportunities are made available to the youth, it would go a long way to curb the exodus bandwagon of the youth to seek greener pastures in Europe and elsewhere.
“.. I know very well that the German Corporation have been offering scholarships for children to go on exchange programmes in Germany. I would like to appeal when the opportunity comes, my youths are here, we would like to have that opportunity to be able to have an exchange programme in Germany as well because I know these programmes are there… By doing this, it is going to help the youth stop migrating to Europe. A lot of the youth sometimes, because of the situation, they like to go elsewhere to seek for greener pastures but if we are able to provide good education for them and good skilled work, I don’t think they would think of travelling by road to go and risk their lives trying to seek for greener pastures”
Dr. Arne Wulff on his part, thanked the chief for the warm reception. He said this year, it is very complicated because of the change of government in Germany and so everything has delayed in terms of budget. He said he is hopeful by the middle of the year; his outfit will get some money for the developmental projects. He also assured the chief of his outfit’s support to the youth especially those who intend to read their Master’s programmes in Germany.
Chief Dagadu together with the other community chiefs took Dr. Arne Wulff on a tour of the community so as to get firsthand information about the community.
