A police officer who goes by the name General Corporal Mahmood Abdulai, is being investigated by the Odorkor Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTD) for allegedly killing a pedestrian at Atico junction on Thursday, January 13.
According to a statement released by the police, Corporal Mahmood with a Toyota Votz taxi veered off the road and knocked down three pedestrians standing on the pavement after he failed to exercise caution and attention when he reached a section of the Dr KA Busia Highway on the Mallam road.
They however added that, the three victims, one identified as John Mensa Sarbah with the other still unidentified, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment but unfortunately, one died whiles responding to treatment.
“The three victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for medical attention”.
“However, the victim, Dora Owusua died while responding to treatment. Her body has been deposited at the same hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy whiles the others are undergoing treatment”, the statement said.
They however assured the general public of a thorough investigation into the matter in order for justice to be served.
“We are assuring the public of a thorough investigation for justice to be served,” they added.
