KATH sacks accountant over coronavirus fund case

The Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has laid off its accountant who recently took the hospital to court over the alleged misappropriation of COVID funds.

The accountant, Mr. Awuni Akyireba in 2021 petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to look into the how COVID funds of the hospital were allegedly misappropriated.

He further charged CHRAJ to investigate the Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the hospital, Dr. Oheneba Owusu Danso.

According to him, the management of KATH misused the Covid-19 funds and thus not used for the intended purpose.

Management of the hospital has denied all the claims made by Mr. Awuni Akyireba and believe he has no evidence to all his allegations and therefore want to bring the name of the management into disrepute.

In a report sighted by the thenewgh.com from Starr FM, the dismissal letter, signed by the board chair Nana Effah Ampenteng, the Omanhene of Bompata Traditional Area, has directed the Director of Finance to remove the name of Mr. Awuni Akyireba from the staff payroll and all his entitlements due him be paid.

Mr. Awuni Akyireba says he would appeal the decision and take legal action against the hospital because his rights have been violated.
