Ghana has been ranked as the most peaceful country in West Africa according to the Global Peace Index (GPI) and second most peaceful in Africa after Mauritius.
Across the globe, Ghana ranks 38th in the Global Peace Index for 2021 whiles Iceland holds the number 1 position being the most peaceful country.
This is the 15th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) which ranks 163 independent states and territories covering over 99 percent of the world’s population. It is composed of 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators and from highly respected sources.
Three key parameters were considered in the index which include: the level of safety and security in society, the extent of domestic or international conflict and the degree of militarization.
Mauritius ranks the most peaceful country in Africa with Botswana taking the third spot.
The President of the Republic of Ghana, in reacting to the news, took to twitter to share his delight and urging Ghanaians to continue to uphold the peace it enjoys.
He wrote “Let’s continue to maintain the peace we have in Ghana”
