Nana Addo pays GH¢14,394,397.58 for separation of conjoined twins

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has through the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare yesterday made payment for the surgery of the conjoined twins at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

The surgery, which cost GH¢14,394,397.58 is said to happen this September with Medical doctors and a team of 166 specialists both local and internationally set to perform the first local separation. The money is however said to also purchase some surgical equipment for the operation.

According to the Greater Accra Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Charity Sarpong, since March 2020, the technical team of specialists from all over the country had been liaising with international medical specialists in preparations towards the operation. She however expressed her gratitude to the general public for their support also aside the president’s. She said, they are all looking forward to a very successful operation.

“We are all aware of what the President did, promising that they would help with all medical bills for separating the conjoined twins. I must say that the general public has also been very supportive, and today we are here for another very important purpose. We hope to see a very successful operation”, she said.

The conjoined twins were delivered at Nsawam early this year on March 30, 2021, but were later transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital for the necessary operation to be conducted on them for their separation.
